Mac Milk: Chic White Apple-Inspired Computer Desk Design
To say ‘Milk‘ was styled for Apple users might be an understatement. Streamlined like a Mac and with equal emphasis on sleek form and minimalist functionality, this computer desk might not stand the test of time (e.g. when the world truly goes wireless) but as a contemporary of-the-moment work surface it seems superbly streamlined to its purpose – whether or not you share its goals.
Is it minimalist, or the opposite: over-engineered? Most of the niche functions seem well suited to their tasks: a simple cord slot for collecting and channeling cables, translucent top-opening ‘drawers’ to see what you have stored without setting it straight on the surface and so forth. Still, the central aluminum column can be height-adjusted at the push of a button, though whether you want to rely on electronics to raise and lower your desk (or have to connect it to a wall socket) is another question.
The relatively-flat chrome (or optionally: aluminium) foot looks great in the images, but does it sit flush enough to the floor (and far enough back) so that your rolling chair will not constantly bump into the edge? As a confessed PC user, the fundamental question to me is: does the focus on style go too far, and some functionality get sacrificed in the process? After all, this is where you may spend as much as eight hours a day – if it is going to be a one-size-fits-all approach, it had better work how you want it to.
Those nagging negatives aside, there is no doubt that this is a fine work of design that may well fit the lifestyle of many modern worker bees. Still, for all of the emphasis on its designer styling and functional components, one could wish it were a bit more ergonomically crafted and made of higher-quality materials all around (rather than the MDF surface, for example, despite aluminum and chrome being employed for other areas). In short: it still seems more concept than real in many ways, but on the right track regardless.

Estantería flotante con sistema de rotación

Suspend Disbelief: 7 Floating & Rotating Shelving Systems
Hanging precariously (and sometimes off-center) on thin metal poles or, these simple sets of wood shelves and glass boxes seem to hover in the air. Better yet: some of the units spin on their axis, rotating to display books or other decorative objects.
Designed by T. Colzan, these Domino shelving systems work as singular towers in the middle of spaces but also operate well in tandem (or triplicate) as visual room dividers, semi-opaque screens and conceptual spatial separators.
Decorative but functional, the metal support poles allow for other modular attachments as well – such as televisions suspended in between sets of shelves. The catch? Small spaces might find it difficult to accommodate objects that rotate – these end up requiring more area total than a normal wall-hanging or corner shelving unit.

Exotic or Overkill? Series of 18 Extreme Leather Furnishings
Suppress any shocked response and consider how often you end up sitting in something made of leather (or slip your feet into leather shoes, pull out a leather wallet, etc…). There, now let it loose – what do you think of this curious furniture series? It is the real deal – constructed with everything from alligator scales to zebra skins, buffalo pieces to ostrich parts … and more.
Horns, tusks and tails make the reality of the mostly-leather creations a present visual factor in a visceral way – anthropomorphic elements (legs and armrests) augment the life-like feel of these furnishings. Creative, creepy or both?
Michel Hallard is an artist and craftsman who is very aware that his furniture can make people uncomfortable – even if the materials he uses are soft and supple. His pieces, in fact, are not sold through normal sales and distribution channels to casual consumers. Mostly they end up at art auction, and may ever be sat in by their owners.
While many of his works are seating (couches, chairs and recliners in particular) some folks might be a little more likely to let other objects into their homes – side tables, dressers and other things that perhaps do not require such full and frequent physical contact.
It would be too easy to dismiss these items as macabre and sensationalist. At the end of the day, it is clear that Hallard pays a good deal of attention to detail and puts much consideration into how all parts of an animal – hard and soft, dark and light, warm and cold – fit into his complex compositions.
While he might anger some environmentalists or animal lovers, there is something to be said for the way that nothing goes to waste here – though, like any use of once-living creatures, one could hope that the sources at least were sustainable in each case.

Sofás cama para ahorrar espacio

Wall + Bed + Sofa = Stylish Convertible Stealth Furniture
transforming bed couch design
We all know about hidden wall beds and transforming furniture, but what happens when you combine the two? By day these space-saving hideaway beds are subtle, tucking back into walls and leaving simple shelves and sofas behind to make their presence all the more invisible. By night they are full-fledged bedroom furniture – often still including storage space and other functions.
transforming luxury sofa bed
Some of these BonBon all-in-one bed designs are incredibly crafty, requiring multiple operational moves to convert them from one position to another – but, as a result, they look completely natural in either configuration.
transforming double bed couch
Others are easier to operate and simply take over the space of the sofa by folding down a bed on top of it – leaving a little room on the side to put things at night.
covertible sofa wall bed
Still others are fully integrated into their surrounds to the point that you would never guess that there is a bed (or couch) lurking on the other side of the surrounding cabinetry.
transforming couch lounge bed
The ‘bed’ and ‘sofa’ modes are also not necessarily binary – some of the coolest combinations involve various in-between modes for relaxing, reading and general lounging.
transforming hidden bed desk
One of the best bedroom ideas from the bunch by far is this clever convertible desk-and-bed combination. No one would ever guess that the desk, tucked against the wall, can collapse simply and easily and disappear as the hidden loft bed drops down from a bove
